Fly Away Home

Away from home for
the first time across oceans.
She flew to granite.

Technicolor to
Grey pixels not in Kansas
anymore. Fights. Sobs.

Broken engagement
Losing once upon a time
Forgetting Happy

Ever After leads
her from there to discover
her roots. Inherited traits

stretch between the beach
and Prince Street. High forehead and
“a reputation”

for trouble. Drunken
nights. Racing forms thunder dark
glances and blows. Tears

if he loses. Chance.
Gold Rings. I do. You lose. Howl
echoes in stained glass.

Across an ocean
her grandmother let him go.
She repeats the past.
